Ingredients

  • Puttu mix or roasted rice flour - 1 cup
  • Semolina - 4 tbsp
  • Shredded coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - 1 1/2 tsp
  • Water - 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. Combine puttu mix, semolina, salt.
  2. Add water in small intervals while kneading the dough with fingers.
  3. Keep kneading until there are no big lumps.
  4. Rest the rice mix for 5 minutes. Meanwhile boil 2 cups of water in pressure cooker with only lid on
  5. No need to place the weight.
  6. Now take the puttu maker, place sieve at bottom and put 1 tbsp of coconut for first layer.
  7. Add handful of rice mix on top of coconut. Continue making layers until you reach top.
  8. Make sure you have grated coconut at the top before covering the vessel with its lid
  9. Now wait until cooker lets out a lot of steam before fixing the puttu vessel on to cooker lid
  10. Within 5 minutes steam will start coming out from the puttu maker lid holes.
  11. Let it cook for 5 minutes more before removing the puttu vessel.
  12. Now with the help of a stick, push slowly through the hole under puttu vessel.
  13. Let the puttu slide from the tube onto a plate
  14. Enjoy your Puttu with Kadala Curry or ripe banana.
