Rice Cake (Puttu)
Ingredients
- Puttu mix or roasted rice flour - 1 cup
- Semolina - 4 tbsp
- Shredded coconut - 1/2 cup
- Salt - 1 1/2 tsp
- Water - 1/2 cup
Instructions
- Combine puttu mix, semolina, salt.
- Add water in small intervals while kneading the dough with fingers.
- Keep kneading until there are no big lumps.
- Rest the rice mix for 5 minutes. Meanwhile boil 2 cups of water in pressure cooker with only lid on
- No need to place the weight.
- Now take the puttu maker, place sieve at bottom and put 1 tbsp of coconut for first layer.
- Add handful of rice mix on top of coconut. Continue making layers until you reach top.
- Make sure you have grated coconut at the top before covering the vessel with its lid
- Now wait until cooker lets out a lot of steam before fixing the puttu vessel on to cooker lid
- Within 5 minutes steam will start coming out from the puttu maker lid holes.
- Let it cook for 5 minutes more before removing the puttu vessel.
- Now with the help of a stick, push slowly through the hole under puttu vessel.
- Let the puttu slide from the tube onto a plate
- Enjoy your Puttu with Kadala Curry or ripe banana.
