Hot Chicken Curry | Kozhi Varattiyathu

Hot Chicken Curry | Kerala Style Kozhi Varattiyathu

Best hot and spicy chicken or kozhi varattiyathu recipe

Ingredients

  • Chicken - 1 kg clean and cut into medium pieces
  • Onion - 3 thinly sliced
  • Ginger - 2" piece crushed
  • Garlic - 10 nos crushed
  • Green chilli - 5 nos slit lengthwise
  • Curry leaves - 3 stems
  • Chilli powder - 2 tsp full
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Chicken curry masala powder or corriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste or 1 1/2 tsp
  • Water 1/2 cup
  • Coconut oil - 3 tbsp (can use vegetable oil too )

Instructions

  1. In a deep sauce pan heat oil over medium heat
  2. Add the thinly sliced onions and saute until it is slightly golden brown
  3. Now add ginger, garlic, green chilli and one stem of curry leaves
  4. Saute till the raw smell disappears
  5. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder, chicken masala powder and salt, saute for 30 seconds
  6. Then add cleaned chicken pieces and 1/2 cup of water, cover and cook for 15 minute
  7. Stir in between, bring the heat to low and add pepper powder and garam masala powder
  8. Cook for another 5 minutes or till the chicken is done
  9. Finally add 2 stems of curry leaves and corriander leaves
  10. Switch off the stove and serve hot with rice or roti
  11. ENJOY!!!
