Erachi(chicken) Choru – Meat Rice

 

Chicken Rice – Erachi Kozhi Choru great eaten for dinner of lunch. Truly filling.. for kids and adults alike. Best eaten with raita, pickle and fried chicken.. 🙂

Erachi Choru

Erachi Choru

Ingredients

  • Basmati rice - 2 cups washed and soak into tap water for 20 minutes
  • Chicken - 1/2 kg cleaned and cut into medium pieces
  • Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - 1/2 tsp
    For masala :
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Onion - 2 sliced
  • Green chilli - 3
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece crushed
  • Garlic - 5 nos crushed
  • Tomato - 1 big sliced
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp chopped
  • Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
  • Water - 1/4 cup
    For rice :
  • Oil + ghee - 4 tbsp
  • Cinnamon - 1 inch piece 2nos
  • Cloves - 2 nos
  • Cardamom - 2
  • Boiled water - 5 cup
  • Salt - to taste or 2 tsp

Instructions

  1. Wash & soak rice 1/2 an hour, then drain it
  2. In a bowl marinate the cleaned chicken with turmeric powder, pepper powder and salt
  3. Heat oil in a sauce pan and add sliced onion, saute for 1 minute
  4. Add green chilli,ginger,garlic and curry leaves, saute for few seconds
  5. Add tomato slices and stir, then add chilli powder,coriander powder and salt
  6. Now add marinate chicken pieces and 1/4 cup of water, combine well
  7. Cover the pot and cook it over medium flame for 20 minutes or till the chicken is tender
  8. When the gravy is thick, add pepper powder,garam masala powder and coriander leaves
  9. Switch off the stove and keep aside
  10. Heat a sauce pan over medium heat and add oil
  11. Add clove, cinnamon and cardamom, wait few seconds
  12. Then add cleaned rice and saute 5 minutes in medium heat , stir continuosly
  13. Pour the boiled hot water and add salt
  14. Cook in medium heat for 5 minutes , then bring heat to medium - low for 5 minutes
  15. Stir 2 to 3 times in between
  16. Add cooked thick chicken masala into it and fold it in
  17. Cover and cook over medium - low flame for 5 to 10 minutes
  18. Garnish with coriander leaves
  19. Enjoy hot with raita and pickle
