Beetroot thoran side dish

Ingredients

  • Beetroots - 250gm ( I used beet with it leaves) you can make it without leaves too
  • Onion - 1 chopped
  • Green chilli - 3 nos slit lenghthwise
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - 1tsp or as per your taste
  • Water - 5 tbsp
  • Grated coconut - 1/4 cup
    For Temper:
  • Oil - 3 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 2 stems
  • Dry red chilli - 2

Instructions

  1. Cut beetroot in to small cubes and if you use leaves chopped it seperatly
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and splutter mustard
  3. Add dry red chilli and curry leaves
  4. Now add beetroot , turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and water
  5. Cover and cook 5 minutes
  6. Saute in between
  7. If you use the leaves of beets you can add it now and cook 5 more minutes in low heat
  8. Add grated coconut and cook one more minute
  9. Remove from stove
  10. Enjoy with rice
