Sadhya Parippu Curry | Sadhya Cheru Payar Curry

Sadhya Parippu Curry | Sadhya Cheru Payar Curry

Ingredients

  • Moong dal - 1/2 cup washed and drained
  • Small onion - 5
  • Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - 2 tsp or as per your taste
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Ghee - 1tsp
    To Grind :
  • Coconut - 1/4 cup
  • Green chilli - 1 slit
  • Jeera - 1/2 tsp
    To Temper :
  • Coconut oil - 2 tsp
  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli - 2 break in half
  • Curry leaves - few or 2 stems
  • Shallots - 3 thinly sliced
  • Green chilli - 2

Instructions

  1. In a pan, roast washed and dry moong dal till it is slightly golden brown
  2. Transfer the roasted moong dal into a pressure cooker
  3. Add small onion, turmeric,1 tsp of ghee, salt and water
  4. Pressure cook over medium heat until the first whistle
  5. Switch off the stove and set aside to cool
  6. Meanwhile grind coconut with the green chilli , jeera and 1/4 cup of water into a smooth paste
  7. Now open the cooker and add the grinded coconut paste, mix well
  8. Add more water ( about 1/2 cup ) if you need
  9. Cook the parippu for 3 to 4 minutes over medium - low heat or until the raw smell of coconut disappears
  10. Switch off the stove and set aside
  11. In a small pan heat coconut oil over medium heat and splutter mustard seeds
  12. Immediately add red chilli, shallots , green chillies and curry leaves, saute for 1 minute
  13. Pour the tempered items over the cooked dal curry
  14. Stir and serve hot with rice, drizzle 1/2 tsp of melted ghee on the top
  15. Enjoy
