Fish Curry with Raw Mango | Pacha Manga Meen Curry

Fish Curry with Raw Mango | Pacha Manga Meen Curry

Ingredients

  • Fish - 1/2 kg cleaned and cut in to medium pieces (can use any type of large fish)
  • Shallots - 6 nos cut lengthwise
  • Green chilli - 4 nos slit
  • Ginger - 1" piece thinly sliced
  • Curry leaves - 2 stems
  • Raw mango - 1 small ( cut into small lengthy pieces)
  • Kudampuli - 1 piece (optional)
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - 1 tsp or as per your taste
  • Thick fresh coconut milk - 1 cup ( can use 1/2 cup of coconut powder mixed with warm water to make 1 cup of coconut milk)
    For temper :
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek (uluva ) - 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves - few

Instructions

  1. Marinate the cleaned fish with 1/2 tsp of chilli powder , 1 pinch of turmeric powder and salt, let it stand for 15 minutes
  2. In a deep sauce pan heat oil over medium heat and splutter mustard seeds followed by fenugreek
  3. Immediately add shallots,ginger, green chilli and curry leaves , saute for 1 minute
  4. Then add chilli powder,turmeric powder,coriander powder and salt, saute well
  5. Add raw mango pieces, kudampuli and 1/2 cup of water, bring to boil for 1 minutes
  6. Now add the marinated fish pieces, cover and cook for 10 minutes or until the fish is cooked
  7. Bring the heat to medium-low and add coconut milk, cook for another 2 minutes,stir in between
  8. Finally add some curry leaves and switch off the stove , let it sit for 15 minutes to 1/2 an hour
  9. Serve hot with rice or roti
