Ariunda | Sweet Rice Balls

Tasty Ariunda or Sweet Rice Balls loved by kids


  • Parboiled rice or kuthari - 1 1/2 cup
  • Jaggery - 3/4 cup or 10 cubes
  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Coconut - 1 cup shredded
  • Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt - 1 pinch


  1. Wash the rice well and drain
  2. Heat a heavy bottom pan or kadai over medium heat & roast the rice for 10 minutes
  3. Then rice will start to pop, reduce the heat to medium low & roast until it is golden brown
  4. Remove from the stove and let it sit for 5 minutes
  5. Grind the roasted rice in the grinder ( not too fine or coarse,somewhere between)
  6. Meanwhile in a small sauce pan melt jaggery with 1/2 cup of water on medium - low heat
  7. When the jaggery mix cools pour it through a sieve and keep aside
  8. In a grinder add shredded coconut , cardamom powder ,1 pinch of salt and jaggery liquid
  9. Grind coarsely and transfer into a larger bowl
  10. Add rice powder gradually into the jaggery coconut mix and knead well for 5 minutes
  11. Take lemon size portion from the mixture and make oval shaped balls
  12. Enjoy with tea or by itself
