Okra (Vendakka ) Thoran

Tasty okra side dish

Ingredients

  • Okra - 1/2 kg
  • Onion - 1 big chopped
  • Green chilli - 3 slit lenghthwise
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Shredded coconut - 1/4 cup
  • Salt - 1 tsp or as per your taste
    For temper
  • Oil - 3 tbsp
  • Mustard seed - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 2 stems
  • Dry red chilli - 1 make half

Instructions

  1. Wash and dried the okra well and cut it to half a cm wide rounds
  2. In a pan heat oil over medium heat and splutter mustard
  3. Add dry red chilli and curry leaves
  4. Then add onion, green chilli and saute well
  5. Add okra (vendakka) , turmeric powder,chilli powder and salt
  6. Mix it well & cook with a lid for 5 minutes
  7. Saute in between and add shredded coconut
  8. Cook in low flame for 5 minutes & remove from the stove
  9. Enjoy with rice
