Ari Roti | Rice Roti

Best fulfilling meal for breakfast or dinner


  • Boiled rice (puzhungalari) - 1 cup (soak the rice in 11/2 liters of boiled water )
  • Rice powder ( roasted ) - 2 to 3 cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Salt - 2 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp


  1. In a deep bottom sauce pan boil the water over medium heat
  2. When it reaches boil add washed rice and cover with a lid
  3. Switch off the stove and Soak the rice for minimum 3 hours
  4. Then wash the rice again and drain it
  5. In a food processor grind the rice with 1 cup of water and salt ( add more water if you need )
  6. Grind the rice into a fine paste
  7. Transfer the rice paste into a bowl and gradually add rice powder , knead it well
  8. Spread little oil on your palm and take a lemon sized amount from the rice mixture
  9. Take one small sheet of parchment paper or aluminium foil , spread some oil on it
  10. Place the rice ball into it , press it with your palm and make a circle shape
  11. Make sure its not too thin or thick ( make 1/2 " thick)
  12. Heat an iron stone or non stick pan over medium heat & spread 1/4 tsp of oil with a cotton cloth
  13. Place the roti carefully on the pan , place 3 to 4 rotis if you have more space on the pan
  14. Cook the rotis for 1 minute and flip it using a spatula
  15. Cook for 1 minute and turn it again , repeat the process until it cooked ( about 5 minutes)
  16. Hold the roti vertically using a paper towel and press it on the pan to cook the sides
  17. Also, roll the sides of the roti over the stone , it help to cook the sides
  18. Now transfer the roti into a casserole and spread little ghee over both sides
  19. Serve roti with nadan chicken curry or any stew
