Baked Penne Pasta

This Baked Penne Pasta is a tasty italian dish. When it comes to preparing pasta recipes, there are lots of room to adding ingredients. I love to add lots of vegetables, cheese and red chilli flakes. So in other words, if you are not much of a fan of these ingredients feel free to reduce the amount. Don’t omit the cheese ! that’s the secret of getting a chewy baked penne pasta. When it comes to cheese, you can add or mix various varieties such as cheddar, parmesan, ricotto etc. it all depends on your taste bud. I call it ‘Penne’ because that’s the shape/variety of pasta I used. You can interchange with other varieties.

Baked Penne Pasta

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

  • Pasta - 450 g follow the cooking instruction on the package to cook
  • Onion - 1/2 chopped or sliced
  • Green onion - 2 tbsp chopped
  • Garlic - 6 nos chopped or 1 tbsp
  • Capsicum - 1/4 cup into 1" cubed or sliced pieces
  • Zucchini - 1/4 cup cut into 1" cubed or sliced pieces
  • Red chilli flakes - 1 tsp
  • Italian herbs (dry herbs) - 1/4 tsp optional
  • Garam Masala or Curry Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Pasta sauce - 1/2 bottle or 400 ml
  • Salt to taste
  • Olive oil - 4 tbsp
    For garnish:
  • Mozzarella Cheese - 100 gm shredded add more if you are a cheese lover
  • Green onion - chopped few
  • Red chilli flakes - 1 tbsp


  1. In a large sauce pan boil the recommended amount of water on the package
  2. Add 1 tbsp of olive oil and 1 tsp of salt , add the pasta and cook until tender about 10 to 15 minutes. No need to cook until really soft because once baked it will be all set
  3. Drain well and keep it aside
  4. Preheat oven 350 degree F for baking
  5. Next,take a wide pan and heat olive oil over medium heat on stove top
  6. Saute the whole garlic cloves and keep it aside
  7. Next add onion and saute till the raw smell disappears then add zucchini, capsicum and saute for 1 to 2 minutes on medium heat
  8. Now add in previously set aside garlic cloves, chilli flakes,garam masala,dry herbs, salt and green onion combine
  9. Add pasta sauce and some water if too thick, bring to slight boil then reduce the heat to simmer, add cooked pasta and combine make sure not to break the pasta
  10. Cover and cook for 1 minute switch off the stove remove from heat
  11. Take an oven safe dish and spread the pasta evenly, top with cheese
  12. Bake for 10 minutes, then take it out (use mittens) and let it sit for 5 minutes garnish with green onions
  13. Enjoy the hot baked penne pasta !
