Battura Roti

Cook Time: 30 minutes


A tasty meal for your dinner


  • All- purpose flour - 2 cups
  • Semolina - 3 tbsp
  • Oil - 3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste or 1 tsp
  • Yogurt or curd - 4 tbsp
  • Yeast - 1 tbsp
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Warm water - 3/4 cup


  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water and keep aside for 10 minutes
  2. In a bowl combine all - purpose flour, semolina, sugar, salt and yogurt, mix well
  3. Then gradually add the yeast dissolved in water & knead well for 5 minutes
  4. If the dough is dry add a little water or if it is too sticky add 1 to 2 tbsp. of flour
  5. Cover the dough with a wet cloth and keep aside for 3 hours
  6. Knead the dough and make 9 lemon size balls & roll it into a circle (not too thin or thick)
  7. Dust the rolling board lightly with some all - purpose flour
  8. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat, when oil is very hot, drop in one battura
  9. Wait for few seconds and slightly press the battura with back side of the spatula
  10. When the battura puffs up, wait for a few seconds, turn it over and cook until slightly golden brown
  11. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towel to remove excess oil
  12. Serve hot with butter chicken or any veg curry
