Mutta Pola | Malabar Egg Cake

Mutta Pola is loved and eaten by many in the Malabar side of Kerala. It is a pure Egg Cake. And the secret is in egg beating. Mutta Pola is a dessert that vanishes as soon as it is served on the plate ;). Kids and elders favour this cake, especially during tea time.


Mutta Pola | Malabar Egg Cake

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 35 minutes

  • Egg - 4 nos
  • Sugar - 8 tbsp
  • All - purpose flour ( maida ) - 7 tbsp
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
  • Salt - 1 pinch
  • Ghee or butter - 1/2 tsp for greasing the pan


  1. In a large bowl, beat the egg with an egg beater on medium speed for 1 minute
  2. Then add sugar and beat on high speed for 12 minutes, add cardamom powder , salt & turmeric
  3. Then add all - purpose flour & mix together with a spatula ( mix without any lumps )
  4. Meanwhile heat a deep bottom 8" sauce pan over medium low heat
  5. Grease the pan with ghee or butter
  6. Place heat in low flame and pour the egg mixture into the pan
  7. Cover and cook in very low flame for 30 minutes or until the center comes out clean when a small knife is inserted, remove from the flame
  8. Heat another pan grease with 1/4 tsp of ghee or butter and turn the cake upside down into this pan
  9. Cover and cook the cake for 5 minutes in low flame
  10. When it's cool transfer to a plate & cut into 3" pieces
  11. Enjoy with tea
