Spicy Mussel Fry


  • Mussels - 1 lb fresh or frozen
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp [optional]
  • Garlic - 3 nos or 1 tsp chopped
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Salt - as per your taste or 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 4 tbsp


  1. Wash and clean the mussels well. For thawing follow the package instruction.
  2. If you use fresh mussels with shells, boil it in a deep pan with 1/2 cup of water or till shells open
  3. Drain water and let it cool before scooping out mussels from its shell.
  4. Remove the black part in the bottom of the mussel.
  5. Wash it again.
  6. Now marinate the mussel with turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala powder, curry leaves,
  7. garlic and salt. Let is stand for 10 minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a pan and fry it over medium heat for 5 minutes.
  9. Turnover mussels and fry in low flame for 2 or 3 minutes more and remove it from flame
  10. Place fried mussels on kitchen paper towel to remove excess oil
  11. Serve with rice. Enjoy
