Erachi Pathiri (Chicken Samosa)

Malabar Style Erachi Pathiri is famous and a common snack during iftar time. Kids love to eat this with ketchup while elders like to eat with tea. Tastes best when hot and with tea.

Ingredients

  • Chicken - 250 gm cut into medium pieces or (chicken breast)
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - 1.5 tsp or as per your taste
  • Water - 1/2 cup
    For masala:
  • Oil &Ghee - 2 tbsp
  • Onion - 2 big chopped
  • Green chilli - 4 nos chopped
  • Ginger - 1" piece crushed
  • Garlic - 1 tbsp chopped
  • Curry leaves - 1 stem chopped
  • Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp chopped
  • Pepper powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste or 1.5 tsp
    For wrap:
  • All - purpose flour - 1 cup
  • Wheat flour - 3/4 cup
  • Salt to taste or 1 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Water - 3/4 cup
    For fry:
  • Oil - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. In a sauce pan combine cleaned chicken with turmeric powder, chilli powder & garam masala
  2. Add 1/2 cup of water and salt, cook it over medium heat for 10 minutes
  3. Then bring the flame to low - medium & cook for 10 minutes more
  4. Bring the heat medium and boil till the gravy become thick, saute in between
  5. Allow it to cool & shred the chicken using your fingers
  6. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat & saute onion with salt till it transparent
  7. Add ginger , garlic, green chilli , curry leaves and coriander leaves, saute for 1 minute
  8. Then add shredded chicken, pepper powder and garam masala powder
  9. Saute for 1 minute and switch off the stove
  10. In a bowl combine all - purpose flour , wheat flour and salt
  11. Pour the water slowly and knead it well for 5 minutes
  12. If the dough is dry , add little more water , is it sticky add 1 or 2 tbsp of flour
  13. Then add 1 tbsp of oil & knead it again for 2 minutes
  14. Keep it aside for 10 minutes
  15. Take a lime size portion from it and roll it to a thin circle and cut it from the center
  16. Take one piece and place the 1 tbsp of filling and fold it , press the edges well
  17. Again press the edges with a fork , then you will get a design
  18. Repeat this till all pathiris are done
  19. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and deep fry all pathiri, flip in between
  20. Transfer to a plate place with paper towel
  21. Enjoy hot with tea
